The Rehabilitation Engineering Centre (REC) was established in 1987 as a specialist centre. It is now a formal academic unit of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Its mission is to achieve academic excellence in the advancement and application of bioengineering for health and rehabilitation care, offering preferred undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs underpinned by rigorous research and development activities; and To offer user-focused services in assistive and rehabilitation technology, to facilitate self directed living, equal opportunities, and full participation for people with a disability.

. Prosthetics Consultations and Services include upper limb prostheses, lower limb prostheses (special prostheses, such as breast prostheses and ocular prostheses)

. Orthotics Consultations and Services include upper and lower limb orthotics and spinal orthotics

. Special Seating Services include screening, evaluation, recommendation and installation of custom molded, seating and mobility devices

. Selecting, designing, fitting, customizing, adapting, applying, maintainng, repairing assistive technology devices

. Devices for physiotherapists include grip strength trainers with biofeedback, a digital temperature meter with a surface temperature sensor, etc.
