The Jockey Club Rehabilitation Engineering Centre (REC) was established in 1987 as a specialist centre. Currently under the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, REC hosts two service units: Jockey Club Rehabilitation Engineering Service, and Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub. Its mission is to facilitate self-directed living, equal opportunities and full participation of people with needs by applying and advancing knowledge and innovations in rehabilitation engineering and smart ageing technology, as well as to offer rigorous research and development activities for students.

• Prosthetics Consultations and Services including upper limb prostheses, lower limb prostheses (special prostheses, such as breast prostheses and ocular prostheses)

• Orthotics Consultations and Services including upper and lower limb orthotics and spinal orthotics

• Special Seating Services including screening, evaluation, recommendation and installation of custom molded, seating and mobility devices

• Selecting, designing, fitting, customizing, adapting, applying, maintaining, repairing assistive technology devices

• Devices for physiotherapists including grip strength trainers with biofeedback, a digital temperature meter with a surface temperature sensor, etc.
