Existing Public Transport Facilities

Back One Level

We have diversified transport modes operating in Hong Kong. They include railways, tramways, buses, taxis, public light buses and ferries. Major operators of the public transport services provide special facilities to cater for the needs of people with disabilities. The following sections describe each of the transport modes in Hong Kong.

Message to the Public

When taking public transport services, people with disabilities encounter various difficulties. They may require special caring and attention from the general public. It is a civic virtue to let people with disabilities use the public transport services as respectful as the general public. As such, both the general public and operators of various transport modes should be considerate, patient, polite and helpful to people with disabilities because they may require a longer boarding and alighting time than other passengers when using the public transport services due to their mobility difficulties.

To achieve this, the following actions have been undertaken :

  1. all staff of transport operators have been trained to offer assistance to people with disabilities during boarding and alighting when requested;
  2. priority seats inside train, bus and vessel have been designated for people with disabilities and senior persons; and
  3. notice has been displaced at bus stop to advise waiting passengers to let people with disability board the bus first.
